12.07.2018 - ExoMars rover shaken up properly

To make sure the ExoMars rover can withstand the vibrations and shocks of launch, atmospheric entry, parachute deploy and landing, a structural and thermal model is shaken on a vibration table these days.

Those structural tests will be followed by two months of exposure to the extreme low temperatures that can be expected at Mars.

The Radar antenna of the WISDOM 
instrument (outlined in red) structurally
designed and manufactured by INVENT
has apparently performed well so far.
Our structure consists of bonded glass fibre 
sandwich panels with a special glass version
of CCORE, INVENT's composite honeycomb
structure.

The RF features are realised by metallic coating of the facesheets and integrated electronics.

The ExoMars rover (landing on Mars in 2021) will be the first lander to drill beneath the surface in search of evidence of habitability or even life.
