Delivery of the CO2M satellite platform
INVENT GmbH, a leading manufacturer of lightweight structures for satellite platforms and instruments, has successfully manufactured and delivered the second and for the time being last satellite structure for the CO2M mission of the European Space Agency (ESA).

The CO2M satellite is equipped with state-of-the-art sensor technology to carry out high-precision measurements of carbon dioxide emissions on Earth. The satellite’s central structure, manufactured by INVENT, plays a crucial role as it forms the basis for integrating the sensitive instruments. It consists of a large number of milled and turned aluminum components as well as aluminum sandwich panels manufactured by INVENT and meets the highest standards of precision, stability and reliability.

“Manufacturing the satellite structure for the CO2M mission was a challenging task,” emphasizes Julia Guerrero Santafe, project manager of the project at INVENT GmbH. “Our experts worked closely with the engineers of our client OHB System to ensure that the structure met the specific requirements of this important mission.” The successful production of the satellite structure for the CO2M mission underlines INVENT GmbH’s technical expertise and commitment to the space industry. In addition to CO2M, the company is also involved in other Copernicus program missions to develop innovative solutions for satellite platforms and instruments that contribute to climate change research and the sustainable development of our planet.

The CO2M mission is funded by the EU and ESA.

About Copernicus and CO2M

The Copernicus program of the European Space Agency (ESA) consists of a network of satellites that observe the Earth from space. The main objective is to collect accurate and continuous information about the environment and climate. The mission includes various satellites that collect data to monitor land, ocean and atmospheric phenomena. This information is used to monitor environmental changes, predict natural disasters, optimize agricultural practices and improve human safety. Copernicus provides open access to its data to promote research and innovation. The mission is an important contribution of ESA to global environmental monitoring and sustainability.

The CO2M mission is a component of ESA’s Copernicus program specifically designed to monitor atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) with high precision and spatial resolution. This enables accurate detection of CO2 sources and sinks on a global scale. The data from the CO2M mission helps scientists to better understand the carbon cycle, monitor climate change and take measures to combat the rise in CO2. The mission thus contributes significantly to the evaluation and implementation of climate protection measures.
