European Union‘s and European Space Agency – ESA‘s Copernicus Radar Observing System for Europe at L-band (ROSE-L) is a satellite carrying the largest-ever L-band SAR radar planar antenna. Built by more than15 ESA member states, the mission aims to monitor geohazards, track land use, agriculture, and forestry, provide high-resolution soil moisture data, and observe the Arctic and cryosphere. It will contribute to atmospheric, oceanic, and land measurements, helping scientists analyze land cover, ocean surface currents, soil moisture, snow depth, vegetation, and even crustal motion. ROSE-L is going to be a true European engineering marvel, integrating advanced technology to provide all these essential services with unmatched precision and reliability. The Prime contractor for European Space Agency – ESA is Thales Alenia Space Italia.
For INVENT GmbH it is a great privilege to contribute to this important mission. In December 2025, the upper assembly which is the first part of the second model was delivered to our customer, SAB Aerospace (CZ) in Brno. Once completed the satellite’s backbone structure will consist of the upper and lower assembly to form a 4-meter-tall tube-like CFRP structure. It must be exceptionally lightweight while withstanding the intense forces of the launch and the harsh conditions of space. We have to keep pushing to complete the remaining lower part of the assembly as well as the panels of the impressive SAR antenna. However, right now it is time to admire the work already done and thank all the involved people.
